Notting Hill – Double-Depth Basement
Knowles has worked with This Notting Hill-based detached family residence has had a complete refurbishment including the installation of a 2,500ft2 double-depth basement which extends below the footprint of the house and garden, and includes an internal re-order and installation of a car-lift to a garage level. This required a great deal of planning and surveying from both the Axiom Structures and Knowles teams.
Castlenau Barnes – Basement Under Existing Residence
This 1,800ft2 retrofit basement construction was part of a full refurbishment of a semi-detached property based in Barnes. Axiom Structures worked with Knowles as a permanent and temporary works engineer, providing value-engineering to the original basement scheme in order to create a more economical basement structure.
Castlenau, West London Basement Project
A huge project for Knowles and Greenway was the renovation of a four storey semi-detached Italianate Villa within the Primrose Hill Conservation Area. This residential home was extended to the side and rear and a new basement level was added. Despite the restrictions on basement construction in this part of London, Knowles was successful in winning planning permission for Primrose Hill, making it a landmark project.
St John’s Wood – Renovation And Basement Addition To Substantial Grade II Listed Property
One again, Knowles teamed up with Axiom Structures on this south-west London property for an impressive 2,500ft2 basement, built in just 28 weeks. The project required a demolition and strip out of the ground floor, followed by the construction of extensive ground/first floor temporary works to support the existing structure.
Multi-stage underpinning and retaining walls were added to the perimeter, and a new RC HOLORIB ground floor was installed, leaving the first floor steel frame ready for fit out contractors. This huge job was completed in under the average timescale thanks to Axiom Structures’ help.
