Knowles has been appointed as Principal Contractor on Phase 1 works at Hyde Park Gate. Located on the southern boundary of Kensington Gardens between Queen’s Gate and De Vere Gardens, Hyde Park Gate is of great prestige, housing international embassies, as well as being known as the location of Sir Winston Churchill’s former residence.
The scope of works within Phase 1 includes the installation of a secant piled wall, thus enabling the top-down excavation for a double basement extension under the ground floor, across the full footprint of the existing property. This excavation also extends beneath the front and rear gardens. While the basement excavation is being undertaken, major structural works to the existing dwelling-house will be running concurrently overhead. This approach, often taken by Knowles provides programme and budget gains.
