Knowles served as the principal contractor for a highly complex redevelopment project on High Street Kensington, transforming the eastern wing of this historic area with a mixed-use scheme.
Designed with aesthetic sensitivity and innovative engineering, the project preserved the character of one of Kensington’s iconic streets. The scope of work included the retention and careful restoration of the building’s prominent street-facing façade, supported by highly engineered temporary works. The rear structure underwent extensive but sensitivedemolition, allowing for a modernized structures that maintained it’s historical elements.
Due to the project’s location and proximity to TFL infrastructure, Knowles implemented extensive monitoring and management strategies to protect neighboring structures and minimize disruption. The project also required close coordination for highway management to ensure safety and maintain traffic flow.
The project team featured cost and project managers Stature London, architects, PDP London, and structural engineers, Davies Maguire. This collaborative effort delivered a structure that honored Kensington’s architectural legacy while introducing modern functionality.
“This project demonstrates Knowles’ ability to work on both residential and commercial schemes, with complex works such as the nearby TFL interface and facade retention, located alongside a busy pedestrian highway. On this project, our wide-ranging construction capabilities are being put to practice.”
